I think that gruesome surgical procedure is called "shaving."

The difference is that you can see the genitalia, at least, I don't know 
how many women these days are shaving down there.

Porn star guys shave around the genitalia too. I think all of this 
mostly has to do with presentation. In other words, face the audience, 
don't turn your back on them.
