I've been flipping channels a bunch when I take breaks from the computer. CNN and MSNBC have been doing excellent coverage of the hurricane aftermath. They haven't been pulling any punches as Doug points out. I think it was CNN which just showed some excerpts from the Congressional Black Caucus news conference. Fox News, meanwhile, is busy highlighting Bush's visit. Fox News is engaged in scaremongering about the looting to reinforce the ideology among their white middle class audience that the poor black people in New Orleans are animals who get what they deserve. I've already had one shouting match yesterday with a family member who was obsessed with looters stealing guns.

Check out Fox News right now. A few minutes ago they were highlighting the arrival of National Guard vehicles at the Superdome. I think that Fox News today will go into full blown propaganda mode for the Republicans, demonizing the victims and trumpeting the releif effort.

Fox News should be blown off the face of the earth.
