Death toll is 169 in Mississippi so far, according to local papers this morning Most of those were killed in the original storm in coastal areas.
Of those who have died here in Jackson, most have been because of the heat, and lack of air-conditioning. Most have been in nursing homes. As I said the other day, the climate here is much hotter than most of the US (or Canada, needless to say), and people with certain health conditions, and elderly people, die from the heat. Nursing homes, hospitals and shelters without electricity have had no air-conditioning.
Power is gradually being restored but there are parts of Jackson still without electricity. People are still dying.
Corpses are still being found among the debris in Mississippi coastal communities too. They say the corpses are more difficult to identify now because of the bloating and decomposition. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
