Actually, only two grouplets engage in this. One consists of the enemies of any mass movement: Nathan, Chuck0, Wojtek, Pugliese. Like the counter-demonstrators, they are froth, ignore them.
The second is more complex, people keep shifting in and out of it. These are real leftists who really want a mass movement -- but they are fearful of being embarassed. There is the stereotype of the Victorian Matron who pulls in her skirts and lifts her chin to show she is not part of _that_ riffraff. These people are with us but every so often they have to get in a sneer to show that they are "above such stuff."
