If the Americans had an excuse, they'd use it.

The biggest imaginable excuse would be a WMD terror attack on America, laid at the feet of the Iranians.

BushCo will do what it can to encourage Iranians to do this, including making threats of a nuclear attack.

But I am not one who believes that the American gov't would do it itself. Would a fringe, freako group inside the CIA or FBI try it? It would be hard for any of us to stop them, and BushCo is doing what it can to empower them and this results in an increased likelihood.
