Yes, this is what my friend, the Republican who's worked closely with Dole (and actually hates the Bush administration) was doing. He was working like crazy in a couple of states during the election year -- totally going door-to-door like this.

He happens to be married to a woman who is very pro-Democrat. She's always been active on the issues, but she's started working on grassroots stuff locally, upping her commitment after they Dems lost, precisely because she believes what her husband was doing was what helped them win the election. YOu know, it's that 'change the winds' to blow the sail and move the ship in a different direction thing Michael Pollak talked about back in 2004.
