My Explanation: Two thoughts.

First notion: Nobody at the radio station could take the joke that the callers were joking. In other words they didn't get the fact that the callers may be better than shock-jocks at saying shocking things. (This is the Marxist (Groucho faction) interpretation of reality.)

Second notion: If a person is giving away a PS3 he is obviously better off than any of the callers and probably even wants a baby more than most. There fore giving the child away may actually improve the child's life and, in the event improves your own life. One less child you can't take care of anyway. Plus a Play Station!
