[lbo-talk] A Case for Difficulty and/or Prolixity

Difficulty, perhaps particularly difficulty of complex syntax, _may_ in
some instances be a _rhetorical_ necessity, by which I mean even though
the content in question _could_ be expressed clearly it _would_ not be
noticed at all if it were. The complex syntax can force a reader to stop
to take in the meaning.
I think perhaps Michael Hoover should begin to use a syntax somewhat
like Butler's. His posts to this (and other) lists quite often provide a
useful perspective, but they are written simply and clearly enough that
readers may glance over them and go on without realizing there is
something there to pause on.
