Americans, as well as foreigners, show up at parties if not at
protests: "More than 1 million revelers in Times Square greeted 2007
with cheers, kisses and a whopping 3.5 tons of confetti at the city's
massive New Year's Eve party" (Associated Press, "Revelers Ring in
2007 in Times Square,"
Most of them wore red top hats and waved red balloons handed out by
the corporate boosters of the Times Square. The color is ironic,
given what's happening in Iraq, etc., thanks mainly to the Americans.
At the same time, "[s]ix in 10 people think the U.S. will be the
victim of a terrorist attack" (Darlene Superville, "Poll: Americans
See Gloom, Doom in 2007," Associated Press,
<http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,,-6313716,00.html>).
Makes me wonder why the Americans think that. :->
