The use of "fascist" as an epithet is tiresome. I agree with Doug on this.

Bush is an apocalyptic, messianic, authoritarian militarist and imperialist who supports the myth of a "Free Market," while pursuing a regressive social agenda that seeks to justify and expand privilege and power for the wealthy and straight white Christian men.

An ugly agenda, with echoes from some of the same components found in fascism.

But it is not fascism....

Using "fascist" like this is ludicrous. Is the Bush era any more repressive than the era of the Palmer Raids or the Red Scares? The roundup of the Japanese? The Jim Crow south, when the Klan worked in league with the cops? There's more opposition now, elite and popular, than there ever was in those earlier eras. If the regime really were fascist, your email would be censored, and you might even be locked up.
