gracefully when further challenge to the result
was fruitless. The grace with which each withdrew
and accepted defeat was considered an act of
statesmanship amid partisan furor.<

Nixon wasn't especially graceful in 1962, when he lost his campaign to
become CA's governor. He said that "you won't have Dick Nixon to kick
around anymore" referring to the press. It was quite unseemly.
