Yes- hotels and office projects are now moving into the area, although $8.5 million in subsidies, while not nothing, is pretty miniscule by development standards in NYC. And getting some development at a spot which is about twenty feet from what was considered ground zero of the crack epidemic makes perfect sense. What's kind of shocking is that this is a spot right on the Metro North railroad and there is so LITTLE development there.
What I'm trying to figure out is whether Doug thinks it's a horrible thing that Harlem is actually getting some economic help? Yes, there are no doubt better ways to do it that would help out more folks, but what else is new. But he makes these kind of actions sound like some horrible plot, rather than employment opportunities for people who kind of want them.
