[lbo-talk] Oprah backtracks on Frey, has emotional show about it

Mark,

Well, is Oprah still headin' off to Auschwitz after this? I like your "Frey should have gotten loaded" strategy. But remember initially he did sort of meet the TSG accusations with this swaggering bravado -- he referenced their "bullshit" on his website (which is preposterously-named Bigjimindustries.com), and threatened a lawsuit via a-list LA entertainment lawyer Marty Singer. Now the lawsuit bluster has disappeared. But, yeah, getting fucked up on booze would have been a nice turn.

On the other hand there've been some gems of satire that have come out of this. You know how Frey has the acronym "FTBSITTTD" tattooed on him? It supposedly stands for "FUCK THE BULLSHIT, IT'S TIME TO THROW DOWN" (because Frey's such a bad ass). This piece examines what the acronym REALLY stands for:

"When confronted with TSG's expose he should have assumed hisinvented persona and tried to bluff his way through it. As soon as his lies were exposed he should have gotten fucked up and stayed fucked up. He should have shown up on the Larry King show shitfaced and belligerent, and gotten arrested for decking the old fraud. After a few more brawls and car crashes he could have checked into rehab again, and then written a book about his public crack up. Oprah and her devoted legions would have eaten that up."
