About the best reason to be glad the Boston Red Sox finally won the world series a couple years ago is that the steady stream of overwrought writing about the Red Sox and the symbolic that came out of New England for so many decades is no more.

As in the Zidane story, the facts in the Red Sox story have to do with race. The primary reason they lost for years is they were the last team in baseball to hire black players.
