Note that if you are using Mozilla Firefox it will indicate the availability of an RSS/Atom feed with the designated icon, typically in the URL bar. Clicking on this icon will let you subscribe to the feed as a Firefox "live bookmark", which admittedly is not the best way to read newsfeeds.
If you use a web based news aggregator (Alesti, Bloglines, etc) or [some] feed readers, they will provide you "bookmarklets" that you can add to your bookmarks and click on, when visiting a site, to subscribe to its feed in that reader.
A chicklet would make the whole thing easier of course. Perhaps with a "feed://....." URL instead of an "http://...." URL.
