It's true, I've jumped on their cases in the past, but it's been awhile (or at least it feels that way). Those clashes, such as they were, were more about competing concepts of what socialism is or should be. I come from a more anarcho perspective than do Carrol and Yoshie, thus, there is friction when certain issues arise. But these days, tweaking C&Y for whatever perceived political sin is really not high on my list of concerns. C&Y aren't bombing the fuck out of Lebanon and Gaza. C&Y aren't running torture centers. I still have differences with them, but there are much more pressing dangers around us at the moment. Playing ideological Gotcha! with C&Y would be a tremendous waste of energy. Besides, that's MPug's gig.

The wacky Prof. and I probably share certain perspectives, but I haven't read enough of him to really know. What I have read of him politically is pretty tame and predictable (Dissent lib, no?), esp when he bashes the likes Horowitz, etc. Whatever. My recent go-round with him and Marc Cooper had more to do with the tired yet ceaseless efforts to slander someone who, at present, is sorely needed, and who can reach millions with a clarifying and necessary perspective. What they tried to slime Noam with didn't stick, simply because it wasn't true (apologizing for or otherwise being soft on fascists). Note that neither Cooper or the Prof. had anything substantive to say after my second rebuttal of their "arguments" (in Cooper's case, his tantrum), which shows that their original slanders had no merit. That's what I wanted to expose, and did. I'm sure they have their own spin on why they didn't counter the points I raised, and they're welcome to it.

Really? I felt more condescension from the Prof. than anything else. But I usually get that when tangling with academics, esp those with "hip" personas.
