The peasantry tended to support the Socialist Revolutionaries and, in Ukraine, the Anarchists and Ukrainian nationalists, IIRC. It's my impression that the Bolsheviks were supported by a minority of the population (unlike a decade or two later, when Stalin really did have the support of the majority of the population). I could be wrong about that however.
