Yes.

I doubt this thread is going anyplace. I think Michael Hoover's phrase from C. Wright Mills is on target -- "crackpot realism." The assumption that "small steps" are always more "realistic" than big steps is pure dogma, with no empirical basis whatever in human history or experience.
