[lbo-talk] Computer help needed

I was happily tooting along, using a program called Roxio CD Creator, version 5.3.2, on my Windows 2000 machine, which allows me to read music from CD's, save them in WAV format, burn CD's and copy CD's.

Then, for no particular reason, the program stopped working and I started getting error

ctcatend MO L65 FO P46X Error Code = 0

I'm not sure exactly how I got the program. Either it shipped with my OS or maybe my son dowloaded it at some point.

Anyway. There's nothing on their support site about this error. There's udpate software that I can download, but one of the things that can happen, according to their notes, is that I will get the blue screen of death after installation and then have to go into Safe mode and do various blood curdling things.

So, I'm thinking, maybe I should just uninstall the sucker and find another CD burning and copying piece of software that will not cause my OS to blow up.

Any recommendations? I'm definitely willing to pay money because CD burning and creating is one of the things that justifies the existence of computers for me; I just want software that will not compromise my OS or other data.

Please write offlist if you're savvy about this stuff.

Thanks,

Joanna
