it's long been a tenet of much of liberalism that we in the US already live in a classless society, so that all of the conflicts are essentially among equals (special interests) rather than of oppression/exploitation (class vs. class). Thus, our current government is not a "state" in the Marxian sense of the world. If it's possible for a classless -- and thus stateless -- society to be attained in the minds of liberals, maybe it's possible in the real world? Maybe liberal ideals can be achieved using a non-liberal system?
