Yeah, there really is a big cohort of profs hired in the late 70s and 
early 80s who will be retiring within the next 10 years.  I was doing 
some research for bargaining at my community college, and I found out 
that about 1/3 of the tenured faculty here will hit 65 and retire by 
2012.  This is a typical pattern.  The next 10 years will be a good time 
for people wanting to get academic jobs.
