re. rangel, was surprised that there was no lbo blathering about rangel's quip about who the hell wants to live in mississippi, granted his 'query' was prefaced by accurate criticism of state as example - like south and so-called red states generally - of receiving more in federal funds than paying out in taxes *and* he is generational age of african-american mississippians who left place in large numbers in 1950s and 1960s *and* state continues to lag behind in socio-economic indicators *and* unreconstructed racism remains, there are more black elected officials than in any other state, almost all of whom are democrats...
charlie may not want to live here, but there's lots of really good blues music and some veterans of the civil rights movement that he really ought to meet, perhaps he could at least visit... mh
