There's enough cognitive dissonance in the Litvinenko case to short out anyone's gray matter.
Polonium-210 is an even showier hey-look-at-me murder weapon than thallium -- high-tech, ultra-toxic pixie dust right from the SMERSH props department ... the ideal medium to scrawl "From Russia With Love" all over a corpse. In short, polonium would seem absolutely the *last* choice the FSB would make to discreetly dispose of a turbulent former agent, strongly suggesting the FSB has been framed/stitched-up here. OTOH, isn't that exactly the impression the FSB might want to create? After all, if Litvinenko had died in an apparent accident, wouldn't it have been immediately tagged an "accident" no matter how convincing a mishap it might have been? Maybe the best way to disguise a state-sponsored hit is to go over the top and make it *look* like a state-sponsored hit Hollywood-style.
In any case, I look forward to the actual movie version of this escapade. It will be interesting to see who plays the part of J. Heartfield -- my money's on Rowan Atkinson :)
