The Japanese Government will assist Vietnam in making a study of the national energy master plan until 2025 through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The scope of work for the Study on National Energy Master Plan was signed in Hanoi on September 28 by Hiroaki Nakagawa, Resident Representative of JICA in Vietnam, and Pham Khanh Toan, Director of the Institute of Energy under the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry.

Japan wanted to contribute more to Vietnam's strongly developing economy by supporting the implementation of the Study on National Energy Master Plan, said the JICA Resident Representative at the signing ceremony.

Masayuki Hayashi, JICA Deputy Resident Representative, told a Vietnam News Agency reporter that the project was of great importance to helping the Vietnamese Government work out an energy development master plan in order to ensure national energy security.

The 17-month project aims to build a national database, including socio-economic data and energy data covering electric power, coal, oil and gas, and renewable energy.

The project is expected to improve the capacity of the staff of relevant agencies under the Ministry of Industry.

Based on the results of the project, JICA will put forth suitable measures to assist Vietnam in the near future, said Hayashi. (VNA)
