Tarzan Chimp Cops Attitude
IN Hollywood, even the chimps can act like divas. When Mame McCutchin, host of Voom Gallery HD Networks' upcoming TV series, "Artland: USA," went to visit Cheeta, the simian pal of Tarzan, for a segment on the show, she was shocked. Cheeta, 74 - now in a Palm Springs "retirement" home - refused to talk to her. "I always loved the old Tarzan movies so I was strangely excited about meeting Cheeta in the flesh," laughs McCutchin, a former travel writer. "But I have to say, he really pulled a star trip on me!" Cheeta first refused to come out of his room, and then didn't want to paint for her camera crew or even sit still for photos. "Really, all he did was eat bananas and drink caffeine-free Diet Coke," McCutchin says. She had better luck during her "dream interview" with Surapa, the Buffalo Zoo's 4.5-ton elephant who cheerily painted with her trunk during the shoot with McCutchin.
