Japan has granted over US $89,000 for construction of a primary school in Nam Hung commune, Nam Truc district, in the Red River delta province of Nam Dinh.
The aid project was signed in Hanoi on May 29 between Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Norio Hattori and a representative of the People's Committee of Nam Hung commune. It was part of a programme on the Japanese Government's donation to develop primary education in Vietnamese localities.
Under the project, a two-storey school with 10 classrooms will be built to replace the existing one, which was built in 1971 and has fallen into disrepair.
Nam Hung is an impoverished agricultural commune with an annual per capita income of 180 USD per person. The commune now has about 760 primary-school pupils.
The same day, Ambassador Hattori and Bui Song Dong, Chairman of Yen Quang commune, Y Yen district also in Nam Dinh province, signed a project to build a primary school for Yen Quang commune at a cost of US $86,800 . (VNA)
