Yes, but if it were simply about cluing potential fans into what is going on, then concerts would be doing more poorly than they are and CD sales would be doing well. It is easy to put all sorts of illuminating material into the liner notes of a CD. In a concert hall, on the other hand, the lights dim when the music starts. It is bad form to shuffle papers while the orchestra plays, and worse form to ask the maestro to go back a few bars so you can hear the main theme being played by the woodwinds.
