Not necessarily; the U. S. "lost" the Vietnam war, and now Vietnam
diligently provides cheap labor to enrich U. S. based multinationals.
From the perspective of the ruling class, what's not to like? --It's
easy to envision a similar outcome after the U. S. "loses" in Iraq:
sweetheart oil deals with one or more petty warlords will ensure high
rates of return for U. S. based oil corps. Sure, it won't go down
well in the heartland, and the Iraqis will get screwed over, but that's
more or less irrelevant to the ruling class. M-C-M', baby!
