But these isolated mass murders don't really have an impact on that high US murder rate, do they? These are two seperate phenomenon: the high US murder rate I attribute to the backwards US attitude about drugs and the resulting war on drugs, which is really a war on the poor and blacks.

The other question is why the US has such a high number of these lunatic mass murder rampages. Claiming it is because guns are accessible seems pretty naive. As more is coming out about the VATech shooter it seems clear he had a serious mental illness and there was no place in the system for him to get help. He had been identified by his advisor and other students for some serious aberrant behavior.

The US is really fucked up: if the kid had an ounce of weed he'd be looking at prison, but displaying all sorts of indications of serious mental illness and possible psychosis doesn't result in some fucking forced therapy.
