no shit. and if I get a chance, later tonight,we're going to rip down a whole bunch of signs shaped like crosses that say 1607 - 2007, in God We Trust -- or some crap like that. Some jackasses have posted them all over the medians in the suburban parkway we're living near. I call it Residence Inn Row b/c it's littered with every brand of residence hotel you can imagine.
I'm not as insistent as Brian is about drawing the lines so starkly but, seriously, the only reason I spend any time with a racist is because she's a co-worker. She had the nerve the other day to raise her voice and get angry because another co-worker's English isn't perfect, given that his native language is Hindi. She consistently ridicules him, at work, about his supposed poor manners because, doncha know, the US way is the right way to do everything. I could go on with examples of the racist crap -- and she's not white, btw.
There are some things I draw the line on, and that's one. I was so rip roaring steamed at her bullying behavior toward this guy I actually had to get up and leave to get some fresh air and cool off.
Sorry, but I can sit around and understand all I want about why she, whose relatives spoke another language when they arrived here two generations ago, can't see what she's doing, how she's been brainwashed, or whatever other reason I can think of -- and there are many. I have lived around those folks all my life. I 'get it'.
And what is with the line about the 'country folk' being some kind of savior to the left. Oh, how I've hated that crap since the early 80s when they lefties spread out from the metropoles to come convert. How annoying. We were not noble savages then and they aren't now. and we especially weren't noble savages for the left to redeem itself then -- and they aren't now either.
b -- who likes hanging out in a gentrified metropole in the "real" virginny where you can go huntin' *and* listen to a symphony *and* read workers world from the newstand -- l
