That line about marrying Netflix is hillarious. I divorced Blockbuster two months ago; part of a money-saving/belt-tightening/deeper in the shit thing.

You can do a lot worse than kick off with a Tarkovsky fest. He was (died Dec 1986) my favourite director.

Start with Andrei Rublev... I should warn you, though, Rublev is not just a film; it's an encounter. It is, at times, deeply disturbing, then light. If films were always made like this there would be very few of us watching movies today and, well, there would be no Hollywood.

It is probably the noisiest silent film/most silent soundie ever made. There's an old cliche about music; that music is the notes, as well as the silences between notes. Rublev is about what you see on screen, what you hear - but also about what is missing, not there, actually, but apparent to mind.

Up there with the best - ever.
