[WS:] This seems to be a broader pattern. Here in DC/Baltimore area, public school educators and administrators (most of them Black) often do not send their own kids to public schools, and choose private or charter schools instead. The most often quoted reason is the poor quality of public schooling and negative peer influence.

The problem is, however, that private schools tend to be expensive, except perhaps for religious schools that may offer tuition breaks to low income parents. So home schooling looks like a viable option for those who want to opt out of the public school system but cannot afford private schools tuition and do not want to subject their kids to religious indoctrination.
