I don't get this at all. No one's ridiculing; people are disagreeing. I'm saying that what you think of as spontaneous and unscripted is almost certainly neither. All our ideas of love and lust are deeply embedded in our minds & bodies; the most spontaneous-seeming embrace is a recapitulation of embraces that have been performed a billion times before. There are echoes of poems, movies, paintings, other embraces experienced and witnessed, etc. That doesn't make it any less pleasurable, but what is this fetish for unprecedented originality?

And as for "contempt for the body," there's that wonderful interview in which Foucault says that one of the appealing things about sadomasochism is that it turns the entire body into an erogenous zone. How is that contemptuous?
