NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India will manufacture Russian RD-33 aviation engines under a licence after top Russian and Indian defence officials signed an agreement on Wednesday.
The agreement was signed during a visit to India by Russia's Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov who will join Russian President Vladimir Putin when he arrives on Thursday.
Russian agencies have said the contract for licensed production is worth more than $250 million.
Ivanov also told journalists on Wednesday Russia was ready to start negotiations with India about its participation in developing a Russian fifth generation fighter jet due to make its first flight no later than 2009.
Russia, which has historically close military and diplomatic ties with its former Cold-War ally, is seeking to boost arms sales to India and is already the biggest supplier of hardware to the Indian military.
