Ah! Confirmation of what I suspected at the time. I believe Time/Life came up with "Yuppie" also; very possibly they came up with 9 out of 10 of such "hip" ;_> terms. The U.S. cultural history from c. 1930 to 1970 that most remember if they don't do some research is all history invented concurrently with it by Henry Luce's boys.
