This explains why socialism for Marx means common ownership/control of the means of production and the land by the associated producers themselves. With that control, the realm of disposable time/free-time/freedom can be increased as various forms of wasteful production for profit are eliminated.

Thanks to Eubulides for asking the question and to Charles for answering it.

============ Eubulides:

Given the number of undefined terms in the KM quote it's difficult for me to believe CB has even begun to answer the question.

As one example, what does an increase in human energy mean given what we know of thermodynamics? ********** MB: I don't know that the law of thermodynamics relates to human relations and the question of free time vs. wage-labour.

*************** Eu:

Maybe I've read too much Einstein but I don't understand what "disposable time" means either. And I've got lots of books on time lining my bookshelves. *************** MB: Do you have to sell your time and skills to an employer in order to make a living? If so, those moments at work for your boss would be outside the realm of your own disposable time. ************* Eu: I doubt human beings will ever achieve consensus on what freedom refers to or even means. ************ MB:

Maybe.
