About eight million Iraqis - nearly a third of the population - need immediate emergency aid because of the humanitarian crisis caused by the Iraq war, relief agencies said Monday.
Those Iraqis are in urgent need of water, sanitation, food and shelter, said the report by Oxfam and the NGO Coordination Committee network in Iraq.
The report said 15 per cent of Iraqis cannot regularly afford to eat; 70 per cent are without adequate water supplies (up from 50 per cent in 2003); 28 per cent of children are malnourished (compared with 19 per cent before the 2003 invasion); and 92 per cent of Iraqi children suffer learning problems. http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20070020816
