Look. I grew up in an atmosphere in which FDR was second only to God. I can remember listening on the radio to the Martin, Barton & Fish" and the "Fala's scotch heart" speeches. His voice has never left me. BUT, he (in contrast to Eleanor) was as racist as the DP as a whole. And someone spoke of his having more imagination than current DP leaders. Yes. He imagined the whole future of the u.s. as the imperialist hegemon, and adapted WW2 strategy accordingly. His administration vigorously supported a series of mass murderers in the Caribbean and Latin America.
The appearance of FDR in this thread shows a major weakness in left thinking, at least of sophisticated leftists who value their own intelligence and sensitivity: they stupidly think that what is wrong with the DP is its lack of intelligence, its lack of sensitivity, and its and its failures of imagination. Bullshit. Hillary & Obama and EDwards and t he rest of the war criminals are every bit as imaginative, sensitive, and intelligent as FDR. Only the condtions of the empire have changed.
