Absolutely not a surprise. Only a culture deep in its imperial dotage could cook up something as demented as creationism, the tip of the iceberg of barbarism otherwise known as petro-fundamentalism, and then carry this ideology out to its apotheosis, in the killing grounds of Mesopotamia.
This is an Empire with no future, video-looping endlessly into a fantasy past. Thankfully its grip is crumbling.
