Because most cases don't go to trial any more. Also because in the case
of drug-related judges have zero discretion in sentencing. There are
mandatory sentences, period.
The smartest, most decent lawyer argued very passionately in favor of the jury system. He was speaking after a life time of experience and I trust him.
