My impression is that's from the many people like myself who can't bear to throw out books we once liked -- it feels like violating a kosher law. In New York, we can give them to homeless people. But in most of the country, they don't have homeless booksellers on their suburban streets, so this is their version of not throwing it away: giving it away for free over the internet.
