"Mr. WD" <mister.wd at gmail.com> asked:

Out of sheer curiosity, I have a question: Is there something essential to the nature of capitalism that breeds religious fundamentalism -- a brand of religious fundamentalism capitalism can't necessarily assimilate? *****************

The essential ingredient is ignorance (too much reason spoils a garden of Eden) and a yearning for a time in the past, say the feudal era, when social relations were supposedly based on a purer footing, closer to "The Supreme Being". Obedience to "The Supreme Being" (as interpreted by HIS messengers) is an absolute necessity in order to get back to this lost purity.

Capitalism doesn't have to be guided in this direction. For example, Swedish and Cuban rulers mostly go against this tendency.
