While it is true that struggle itself helps reveal potential for revolution,
study is critical too. The Maoists in Nepal for example made a detailed
study of Nepalese history, society, and geography before launching
full-scale revolutionary war. One purpose of this study ws to identify
various potentials. As struggle plays out, study is always necessary to
identify errors, new stategies and tactics, etc.
In the US, for example, it would be useful to study how various groups of
workers can affect production, profitability, transporation of goods, etc.
as possible guides for organzing strategies. Of course, I am old-fashioned.
The working class, albeit broadly defined, will either be an absolutely
integral part of any socialist revolution or such revolution will simply not
occur.
Struggles never develop in a totally spontaneous way.
