Joanna:

To put it most simply, the dividing line is between health care and health insurance. I have lots of health insurance, but every year it buys me less and less health care. It has gotten to the point where I have no bloody idea ever how much my insurance will pay for or whether it will pay for anything at all.

[WS:] That pretty much sums it up. The bone of contention is single payer, not universal.

BTW, I heard a presentation by the JHU public health professor Vincente Navarro who was connected to the Magaziner/Clinton effort in 1993. He claims that the savings that corporations may incur by shifting the health care burden on taxpayers is insufficient to counterweigh the benefits they now enjoy in the form of labor control they have through discretionary health care plans. Hence single payer is DOA in this country.
