A friend said he remembered the term "transition" becoming 
prominent in the 1970's when there was an importing of 
African spiritual traditions, especially in the AME Church.

As for "y'all":

Whenever TJ is talking to family down South or is intense 
about something (or mad at me), the "y'all"s drop faster 
than knickers at an orgy.  He refers to these moments as 
"getting country."
