The heart of any Austen novel is the relationship between narrator and reader, embodied in the prose. No matter how faithful the story is translated the novel is left completely behind. That was the case with S&S. No sense of danger in the film. In fact, the more faithful the rendition of the story, the more static between film and novel. Of course, Austen had not yet quite mastered her craft in S&S.
