I never really thought about it before, but now that you mention it, yeah. The Kinks were very conservative (in their songs anyway) and full of wistfullness for the England of their grandparents, while rock is "supposed" to be about rebellion and young people.

I think Victoria and The Village Green Preservation Society are two of the best songs of all time.
