BERT GARSKOF will address the MSU Campus Community (The Return of Bert Garskof! *) 7:00 PM , MSU Student Union
*In the 1968-1969 school year, Bert Garskof was an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department of Michigan State University. He was also the Faculty Advisor to MSU-SDS. Bert’s students heard him talk about racism, sexism, and the war in Vietnam . Bert was warm, energetic, sensible, accessible to students and RADICAL. His students engaged in self-grading and receiving blanket 4.0s too. Bert was nominated by his department as TEACHER OF THE YEAR.
He had the highest publication rating and best student ratings. Bert was a vibrant part of MSU-SDS. In the Spring of 1969, the Administration of Michigan State University forced Bert out of his assigned classes and put him on “full time research.” The Administration offered Bert a one year contract after that. But MSU refused to give Bert a three year tenure track contract. MSU was willing to pay him to stay away from students. Bert made a positive impression on students. MSU was scared of Bert Garskof. Bert left MSU after Spring, 1969. Bert has an extensive background as a peace and justice activist. He is currently a board member of Foundation for a Democratic Society and a member of Movement for a Democratic Society. Now Bert will speak again to MSU.
