Far from being Orientalist, Zizek's main point is that the Chinese

> power elite, still "Orientals" unlike "us" in the Western imagination,
> have, like just about everyone else, actually turned to the power of
> the market to melt everything solid

I'm not completely convinced by this. I think Zizek is basically a liberal and an imperialist, despite his excellent critique of capitalist culture. He has recently turned against Laibach over their Slovenian nationalism and he may eventually get over the attachment to secession ("Europe, Now!"), but his stance on Islam is vile and patronising while he is a liberal dweeb on Israel/Palestine. Most importantly, he insists that the Third World lacks the resources for combatting US hegemony and looks to European renewal. His defensive strategies against 'political correctness' are designed to foreclose criticisms of his very obvious Eurocentrism.
