[lbo-talk] NAFTA superhighways

The plans for NAFTA superhighways are regarded here as part of the SPP(Security and Prosperity Partnership) projects with NACC(North American Competitiveness Council) as an advisory group. The entire complex and myriad discussions and projects are viewed as part and parcel of a trend toward the NAU (North American Union)by many. Within Canada TILMA is one of the processes that has become an issue in many provinces. Labor unions, the NDP, and the Green Party have been drawing attention to issues.

The NAFTA highways are not just highways but would contain water pipelines etc. One concern in Canada is that scarce resources such as water will be subject to US demands as the US itself is unable to supply its own needs. As with oil and gas under NAFTA Canada would be unable to set its own price or even deny resources to the US but is forced by the trade agreement to share equally and at prices not higher than Canadians pay.

The recent meeting at Montebello in Quebec with all its protests was part of the SPP and the NACC were there.

Here is the website for SPP. http://www.spp.gov/

Note that although this is a tripartite process involving Mexico, Canada, and the US only the US flag appears on the home page website.

The Green Party has a TV presentation on the SPP including the superhighways as well as power point presentation by Janet Eaton.
